Over the last few months, we have worked hard to redesign and improve Via Satellite to continue providing the best content in the industry. Besides a new, refreshed look, you will also notice some changes in terms of the content. We have expanded regional sections, retooled our columns section under “Opinion,” and added a new “Perspective” feature among other changes.
Our first Perspective feature goes behind the scenes of O3b Networks, one of the most exciting newcomers to enter the satellite business in recent years. We try to look at the O3b story in a different way and talk to the people involved in its creation about the key touchpoints in the formation of the company. It is a great way to kick off this new section in the magazine as this feature takes you on a 20-year journey to how O3b came into being.
As this is the September issue, we also focus on IBC – always one of the highlights of the trade show calendar. It seems every year there are huge changes in the broadcast landscape, but there is one constant: the need for satellite bandwidth and infrastructure is not diminishing any time soon. The talking points this year will likely center on ultra-HD, as well as the growing impact of companies like Netflix in the broadcast sector.
The broadcasting market remains vibrant, if becoming a little more fractured every day, with traditional business models being disrupted. However, the demand for high-quality video content is there, and while that remains, it is hard to imagine satellite not having a major role in powering this content and bringing it to people. IBC will often provide the talking points that will dominate 2014.
We hope you enjoy the all-new Via Satellite; like the broadcasting world, we are in a period of change – but sometimes change is a good thing.
