A combination of satellite image analysis and field visits to Aleppo, the largest city in Syria, show widespread damage to residential areas, civilian organization and cultural heritage, according to Amnesty International.
The satellite photographs were analyzed by The American Association for the Advancement of Science. The association concluded that the destruction across the city was more extensive in opposition-held neighborhoods, which came under attack from government forces.
Amnesty International has also criticized damage to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) world heritage-listed city of Aleppo, including the collapse of the minaret at the city’s Great Mosque.
