Space Foundation Awards Scholarship to Teacher in Florida
[Satellite TODAY 04-22-13] A teacher at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Fla. has been awarded the 2013 Space Foundation’s Dr. Catherine Pedretty Space Scholarship for Teachers. The scholarship will pay for Lorraine Lightner to travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer and participate in one of the Space Foundation’s Space Across the Curriculum courses, which provide Pre-k -12 educators with the tools to incorporate space themes in their classrooms and improve student performance in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as other subject areas.
Lightner, a teacher in one of the poorest communities in one of the least funded school districts in the state of Florida, plans to use the scholarship to attend the Meteorology and Space Weather course.
