General Satellite Planning Pay-TV Expansion in Pakistan

Russian satellite reception equipment manufacturer, General Satellite, is planning to invest in a new pay-TV platform for Pakistan that will be marketed to the wealthy segment of the population. The company hopes to attract 1 million subscribers in Pakistan by 2020.

General Satellite said the platform would most likely be created through a joint venture with a local partner that already holds a satellite license, as the Pakistan government has previously stated it would not issue new licenses in applicants.

GeoEye Receives Government Imagery Order from India

DigitalGlobe subsidiary and imagery provider GeoEye has won a six-figure contract from the RITES Indian government enterprise agency to provide satellite imagery for a freight railway corridor development project.

The imagery will be delivered via the operator’s GeoEye-1 satellite. RITES secured the satellite service purchase through India’s National Remote Sensing Center, which acts as GeoEye’s primary reseller in the region.

Spacecom Provides Broadcast Capacity for AFCON 2013

Spacecom, operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, provided broadcast capacity for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.

The AMOS-5 satellite at 17 degrees East was used to transmit every game of the AFCON from all five South African stadiums in HD via its pan-African C-band capacity.
