[Satellite TODAY 02-14-13] Hughes Network Systems is demonstrating high-speed wireless 4G/LTE capabilities over satellite at California’s Naval Postgraduate School’s field event. The Joint Interagency Field Exploration (JIFX 13-2) event will evaluate the potential for new capabilities to address the needs of combatant commanders and federal agencies. 

The company will demonstrate wireless 4G/LTE transmissions using satellite connectivity with at download speeds of up to 15 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps, to enable real-time video on-the-move, push-to-talk (PTT) communications, and situational awareness for its military and government customers. 

“Today’s warfighters and emergency responders are taking advantage of new data capabilities to advance the mission, but the ability to deliver real-time video communications on-the-move with small, interoperable devices has been elusive,” Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division, said on a statement. 
 

At the JIFX event, representatives from government R&D organizations, academia and private industry explore technologies to increase military capability, reduce costs and collaborate with partner nations and organizations.
