Boeing Signs Air Force GPS satellite Deal
[Satellite TODAY 02-13-13] Boeing and the United States Air Force have signed a contract worth more than $50 million for completion and deployment of the 12 GPS satellites the company is building for the government.
Three of these satellites have already been delivered and launched into service, and the remaining nine are either awaiting launch or being built at Boeing’s El Segundo facility. The company expects to complete production by the end of the year. The GPS satellites – also known by their model, IIF – will help modernize the existing constellation used worldwide by governments, companies and private citizens for navigation functions.
Boeing will receive $51 million for a one-year contract with four one-year optional extensions. The contract covers the satellites’ shipment to the launch site, prelaunch preparation, post-launch checkout, handover, and in-orbit support.
