Footage from South Korea’s first successful satellite launch has found its way into the internet. The video was captured by a video camera fixed to the KSLV rocket as it blasted into space and shows the vehicle entering orbit and releasing the satellite.

South Korea announced that the satellite had made contact with the ground station successfully. The country already has other satellites in orbit but this was the first ever launched from its own soil and follows two failed attempts in 2009 and 2010.

The launch came amid international tensions cause by North Korea’s successful rocket launch that supposedly placed a satellite in orbit.
