[Satellite TODAY 01-18-14] Mobile phone network provider Digicel will start providing high-quality internet bandwidth for their cellular network in Papua New Guinea. According to SES, Digicel has contracted capacity both with them and with O3b Networks.

The agreement allows Digicel usage of O3b’s O3bTrunk service and of the C-band capacity on SES’ NSS-9 satellite at 183 degrees East, with the goal of delivering cost-efficient and reliable high-quality voice and high-speed mobile data services to its costumers.

"The contract with Digicel is a fine example of how geostationary and Medium Earth Orbit satellites complement each other to offer a unique connectivity solution,” said Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer at SES in a statement.
