A group of former Nokia engineers has started a Kickstarter campaign to fund their new GPS smartwatch. “Leikr” features a 2-inch color 320 x 240 screen with Gorilla Glass on the front. It includes built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and it can store up to 8GB of OpenStreetMap data.

Its creators claim that the watch’s custom-built GPS locks onto a signal significantly faster than competing products. Leikr is targeted toward athletes and fitness enthusiasts as a product specifically for working out and not as an every day watch. Users will be able to download workout routines to the phone and upload their workout data to Endomondo, an online fitness community, right from the watch. It also keeps track of time, distance, speed, pace and calories burned.

Leikr is expected to be available for sale by this June.
