[Satellite TODAY 12-27-12] SES will provide capacity from one transponder at the ASTRA 31.5 degrees East orbital position to Anadolu Networks, beginning Jan. 1, the companies announced Dec. 27.

Andadolu Networks aims to use this capacity to launch its direct-to-home (DTH) platform to broadcast local TV channels to all of Turkey.  SES’ prime orbital position for Turkey and the larger region offers services via the ASTRA 1G satellite at 31.5 degrees East. The Q3 2013 launch of ASTRA 5B will provide Anadolu Networks with further opportunities to broadcast its content to countries including Germany and the CIS region.
“The launch of Anadolu Networks provides regional TV channels with an excellent opportunity to grow their audience and businesses beyond local communities,” SES Senior Vice President of Commercial Europe Norbert Hölzle said in a statement. “It once again demonstrates the advantages of satellite to reach large audiences and to overcome the limitations of terrestrial distribution. We are delighted that Anadolu Networks has chosen SES and look forward to supporting its growth at 31.5 degrees East.”
