Beam will serve as the primary contractor and original equipment manufacturer of the end customer solution. “This new initiative…is the first of its kind whereby Iridium is directly utilizing Beam’s engineering and manufacturing expertise to design, develop and manufacture a new dedicated Iridium product,” Iridium Vice President of Product Line Management Joel Thompson said in a statement.

The exact details of the product being designed and manufactured were not disclosed. The product launch is projected to be in the second half of 2013, with the new product initial order commitment aiming to produce incremental sales revenues exceeding $3 million in the first 12 months of commercial sale.
