Stratolaunch Systems and SpaceX have amicably ended their partnership. The companies were working together to create the world’s largest plane using six engines from 747 aircrafts. The purpose of the plane is to fly up to the atmosphere, at 30,000 feet from the Earth’s surface, and launch a rocket into space using less fuel.
The breakup is attributed to creative differences between both parties. Stratolaunch’s design of the launch vehicle departed from SpaceX’s vision of the Flacon vehicle that the company would have provided.
Stratolaunch has already announced that Orbital Sciences will replace SpaceX in this venture. Orbital Sciences will now develop alternative solutions to reach a design decision by next spring.
