Mexican Satellite Systems’ first launch into space is ready for its scheduled lift off next month. The Mexican government announced that the Bicentenario satellite would start operations for fixed and mobile communications services by the end of January 2013. It is designed to operate for 22 years.
The satellite, manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation, will be MEXSAT’s first of a plan to build a state-run satellite network to provide coverage throughout Mexico, including rural communities. Arianespace will launch the Bicentenario on Dec. 19 from French Guiana.
Mexico already has four satellites in orbit; three belong to Satmex and one to Medcom Mexico.
