Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) acquisition of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will start operations in June 2013.

With China’s help, Pakistan will now have a constellation of navigation satellites orbiting the Earth to provide geo-spatial positioning service worldwide. The GNSS has potential applications for the fields of aviation and transport management, agriculture and mining, land administration and management, and study of plate tectonics.

SUPARCO organized a symposium to highlight the importance of the GNSS and its applications for Pakistan’s socio-economic development. Among the attendees were government officials, entrepreneurs, decision makers and academics.
