Oakley released its new high-tech ski goggles, Oakley Airwave, featuring a Heads Up Display, Bluetooth and GPS capabilities. In partnership with Recon Instruments, the goggles will be available for purchase at O Stores, Apple Stores and Apple.com

The goggles use fighter pilot-style technology that displays the skier’s speed, location, distance covered, altitude, and even incoming emails, text messages and caller ID on an imaginary screen generated by the goggles. They user sees the information on the corner of their vision as if it was on a screen five feet away. This is the first time this “Heads Up” technology is available for the public.

The Airwave goggles connect to the skier’s iPhone or Android mobile phone via Bluetooth connection where it collects the data – including the GPS – to beam it onto the surface of the goggles. They come with a wrist-mounted device that allows the user to scroll through displays and control the music being played on their phone.

The goggles have an accompanying app that allows the users to access slope maps worldwide and track friends.
