Ateme Contracted by 2 SAT to Upgrade SNG Trucks
Satellite connectivity provider 2 SAT Europe has chosen compression products developer Ateme to upgrade its digital satellite newsgathering (SNG) fleet.
Ateme will install Kyrion codecs in 2 SAT trucks to enable them to fulfill all satellite transmission requirements from MPEG-2 SD to MPEG-4 HD and at any bitrate.
Ericsson Unveils HEVC Live-TV Encoder for Mobile Devices
Ericsson is set to launch a new HEVC/H.265 encoder that aims to deliver live and linear TV to mobile networks and devices in real-time with resolutions up to HD quality.
The Ericsson SVP 5500 HEVC encoder was designed to reduce bandwidth requirements for current and future services and enable operators to deliver consistent, high-quality TV experiences on mobile devices in the home or on the move.
Eumetsat Enters Scientific Satellite Data Partnership
The European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) has signed a cooperative agreement with the Chinese State Oceanic Administration that will allow both agencies to exchange oceanographic satellite data.
Eumetsat will provide data from Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) instruments hosted on its Metop, Jason-2 and Jason-3 spacecraft. China will provide data from its HY-1 and HY-2 satellites, including altimeter, radiometer and scatterometer data. The collaboration also covers work on data processing, scientific activities, calibration and validation.
Kongsberg KSAT Unit Receives $22.4 Million NASA Deal
Norwegian technology developer Kongsberg confirmed that its Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) business unit was awarded a $22.4 million contract to provide ground station services for NASA’s next generation of weather satellites.
The five-year contract will require KSAT to use its ground stations in Svalbard, Norway and Antarctica to provide services to NASA’s JPSS satellites, as well as to the Japanese satellite GCOM-W1. The ground stations will be operated from KSAT’s main office in Tromsoe, Norway.
