Comtech EF Data Corp. has received $4.8 million in satellite communication equipment orders from an unnamed mobile operator in Latin America, Comtech announced.

    Comtech said the Latin American customer would deploy the equipment to upgrade and expand its existing mobile backhaul network and to support high-speed trunking in the region.

The orders included Comtech EF Data’s advanced VSAT solutions products to reduce power consumption at remote sites and minimize costs for on-grid and off-grid locations. The mobile operator also will utilize Comtech’s DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression to optimize its satellite links.

   “These orders are a testament to our ability to provide an advanced technological solution with high-performance optimization in a region where satellite capacity is scarce,” Comtech President and CEO Fred Kornberg said in a statement.
