Comtech Xicom Introduces Solid-State, X-Band Block Up-Converter

Comtech Xicom Technology unveiled its X-BUC block up-converter, which is targeted to commercial and military customers using X-band capacity on Xtar and Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) satellites.

Comtech’s X-BUC aims to offer higher power in a compact package so system integrators can offer much higher data-rate uplinks on rugged, mobile satcom terminals. The devices provides 50 watts of compressed output power in a self-cooled, feed-mountable package designed to operate in harsh environments and meet current X-band system RF requirements.

Ericsson Releases MPEG-4 Voyager 2 SNG Solution

Ericsson has unveiled its Voyager 2 scalable satellite newsgathering product to meet growing consumer demand for HD news services.

Voyager 2, Ericsson’s fifth-generation DSNG product, is built upon a hot-swappable 1RU chassis with color input confidence monitoring and features MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:2 encoding with 10-bit precision at up to 1080p50/60 resolutions to the DSNG market. The product aims to allow users to scale their event coverage from SD to HD and even multichannel and 3-D, delivered across a multitude of satellite and terrestrial networks.

NewCom Unveils Turnkey Package for Oil and Gas Sector

NewCom International has released a turnkey mobile solution, Office Without Borders, which aims to deliver voice, Internet, SCADA, Fax, videoconferencing and data services to the oil and gas sector.

The product package uses NewCom’s iDirect-based NetSharing platform, bundled with a variety of communications services, including: VSAT, two-device U.S. DID numbers, Wi-Fi access points, FastEthernet LAN switches, SafeAccess, VideoMeetings, SatFax and Voice over IP.

NewCom primarily will target the office suite to energy companies working to tap resource regions in Latin America and Africa.
