Boeing Captures Military Ka-band Satcom Study Contract
The U.S. Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate awarded a $900,000 contract to Boeing to explore ways to modify commercial satellite capabilities to meet military satellite needs.
Boeing will conduct research on new military communications-on-the-move mission requirements as well as connectivity solutions for low-altitude airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms operating on Ka-band frequencies.
Panasonic Avionics To Provide Ku-band In-Flight Service to SAS Airlines
Panasonic Avionics signed a letter of intent with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to deliver full Ku-band broadband connectivity and mobile phone service on SAS’ domestic, pan-European and intercontinental flights.
The agreement enables Panasonic and SAS to begin developing plans to deploy Panasonic’s eXConnect and eXPhone products in collaboration with AeroMobile across SAS’ fleet beginning this fall. Panasonic’s eXConnect system will provide two-way broadband connectivity to SAS aircraft, complemented by eXPhone, which will allows passengers to use mobile and smartphone devices as well as access GPRS services.
Segovia Wins Nato Support Contracts
Inmarsat subsidiary Segovia won a four-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract to provide professional and technical services support to NATO security forces in Afghanistan. The task orders will see Segovia provide NATO with full-time consultants specializing in LAN/WAN management, functional services, training, systems administration, repair/exchange, configuration management and other key services.
NATO also awarded Segovia its first task order under a separate contract to deploy communication and information services and CIS support to NATO units in Afghanistan.
