CapRock Launches Energy Market VSAT Service

Harris Corp. subsidiary CapRock Communications launched its turnkey FieldAccess VSAT service offering for land drilling, shallow-water and production platform markets in the United States.

The off-the-shelf service suite includes broadband Internet, voice connectivity, corporate networking, real-time data, equipment and technical support under all-inclusive pricing plans. CapRock said it would leverage in-region field technicians for FieldAccess technical support in order to provide quicker service response.

Dish Network Moves to Web with Streaming Video Portal

U.S. satellite pay-TV operator Dish Network introduced an online video portal that integrates live and recorded TV and will offer 150,000 movies and TV shows.

Through DishOnline.com, Dish Network customers can watch streaming video contract and browse for content by title, network, actor or genre through a search engine. The streaming video service requires a ViP 922 SlingLoaded DVR or the upcoming Sling Adapter. DishOnline.com will list episodes recorded to a customer’s DVR as well as upcoming episodes that customers can record. The portal also will be open to non-Dish customers.

KVH, ViaSat Expand Maritime VSAT Capacity for North America

KVH and ViaSat have expanded KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband network capacity in the North American region by more than 500 percent, adding a full transponder and new spread spectrum waveform to provide more than six times the previously available bandwidth for maritime services over North America, the Gulf of Mexico and Central America.

Mini-VSAT Broadband’s global network now is delivered by 11 satellite transponders and eight secure ground stations at speeds of 512 kilobits per second upload and 2 megabits per second download. KVH said the additional capacity is critical in the Gulf of Mexico, where mini-VSAT-equipped vessels are participating in oil spill recovery efforts.
