Sea Launch has entered into an agreement with Asia Satellite Telecommunications (AsiaSat) to launch an AsiaSat satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit between 2012 and 2014, Sea Launch announced July 12.
The launch will be carried out on Sea Launch’s Zenit-3SL launch system, from its equatorial launch site at 154 degrees West Longitude, in international waters of the Pacific Ocean. The new AsiaSat satellite will provide services to both the broadcast and telecommunications industries.
“We are very pleased that we have arrived at this agreement, which will be beneficial for both Sea Launch and AsiaSat,” Sea Launch President Kjell Karlsen said in a statement.
Sea Launch said it would exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the third quarter of 2010. Sea Launch filed its reorganization to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on May 10. A hearing to discuss the plan is scheduled for July 27.
Financial details of the launch contract were not disclosed.
