[Satellite TODAY 04-02-10] VSAT service providers should be wary of pricing potential, cost-sensitive VSAT users out of the market after experiencing a sector-wide drop in service revenues and equipment sales, according to a Frost & Sullivan study, released April 1.
The “World Satellite VSAT Market” study cautioned VSAT providers that are pleased with recent service revenue hikes to be considerate of their effects on other sectors, such as VSAT equipment manufacturers. The study said that service hikes are being driven by high demand for diminishing bandwidth, depending on region, with the Asian, Latin American and developing regions affected severely and the North American market relatively resistant.
In the report, Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Daniel Longfield suggested that the VSAT market could help the overall market thrive by “bringing communication capabilities to remote rural areas that are not currently served by terrestrial communications networks and build redundant, ubiquitous, and emergency-resilient hybrid satellite VSAT/terrestrial wireline or wireless networks for large enterprises and governments.”
