Comtech Posts Second Quarter Gains; Warns of Delivery Delays
[Satellite Today 03-05-10] Comtech Telecommunications Corp. recorded sales of $171.1 million in its 2010 second quarter, up from sales of $143.9 million in the same period in 2009, the company announced March 3.
The increase is due to higher sales in the mobile data communications segment, offset, in part, by lower sales in the telecommunications transmission and RF microwave amplifiers segments.
Net income in the 2010 second quarter was $16.3 million, compared to $12.1 million in 2009.
During the quarter, Comtech’s third-party supplier of MTS ruggedized computers and certain related accessories continued to experience production and technical issues. These ongoing issues resulted in shipping and related deployment delays to the U.S. Army, which impacted Comtech’s second quarter results. Based on the third-party supplier’s revised delivery schedule, Comtech expects about $90 million to $100 million of orders in its backlog previously expected to ship in fiscal 2010 to ship in fiscal 2011.
