[Satellite TODAY 02-12-10] ESPN believes 3-D HD live event broadcasts will be very important for the company’s future, but ESPN Executive Vice President of Technology Chuck Pagano told Satellite News that he is relying on a “gut feeling” that the medium will generate interest among consumers.
    ESPN will launch ESPN 3D beginning in June with the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The network plans to broadcast a minimum of 85 live sporting events during its first year.
    "We don’t know what the appetite [for 3-D] will be, but we know there will be an appetite. My gut feeling is that this will be successful. I don’t have any quantitative studies to back this up, but there are going to be people buying these TV sets, regardless of whether we want it or not.” said Pagano. … Continued in Satellite News.
