Orbital Profits Slip in Third Quarter
[Satellite Today 10-16-08] Orbital Sciences Corp. revenues remained relatively flat in the 2008 third quarter, as profits slipped from $15.7 million a year ago to $12.1 million in the most recent quarter, the company announced Oct. 16.
Orbital Sciences posted revenues of $278.6 million in its most recent quarter, compared to $275.6 million in the 2007 third quarter. Revenues in the launch vehicles and advanced space program segments improved. The gains were offset by a decline in revenues in the satellites and space systems segment due to decreased activity on communications satellite programs and science and technology satellite contracts.
Operating income in the 2008 third quarter was $21 million, down slightly from $21.6 million in the same period a year ago. The launch vehicles segment reported a dip in operating profit due to increased research and development spending on the Taurus 2 program.
