[Satellite Today – 6-23-08] GlobeCast completed the next phase of its American high-definition expansion strategy with the installation of state-of-the-art encoding and converting equipment at its broadcast center in Culver City, Calif., the company announced June 23.
    Globecast added gear that includes MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD decoders as well as HD standards converter with motion compensation. The upgrades allow to receive and process HD signals into any international format as well as down convert to standard definition (SD) and deliver the signal around the globe using a combination of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD/SD compression.
    The next stage of GlobeCast America’s HD investment will be the upgrade of its playout facility in Sunrise, Fla., to offer HD playout and origination, completing the HD upgrades at all GlobeCast facilities in the United States.
