[Satellite Today – 6-3-08] Intelsat Ltd. and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly announced June 2 that the FAO’s forthcoming World Food Security Summit in Rome to be held June 3-5 will be broadcast globally via the Intelsat satellite network.
The proceedings will be accessible in real time from almost any point around the globe, broadcast over a mix of Intelsat’s fiber and teleport facilities as well as at least five Intelsat satellites. Intelsat has made its communications network available throughout the last 10 years for the global transmission of major FAO events.
The overall purpose of the summit is to address food security issues in the face of soaring food prices and the new challenges of climate change and energy security.
Separate, Jeffrey Freimark has resigned as CFO of Intelsat Ltd., effective June 5, to pursue other opportunities, Intelsat said. David McGlade, Intelsat’s CEO, will serve as acting CFO until a replacement is named.
