[Satellite Today – 4-29-08] The ICO G1 satellite deployed its large antenna reflector April 26, Space Systems/Loral and ICO Global Communications (Holdings) Ltd. announced.
ICO G1 incorporates a 12-meter antenna reflector designed and built by Harris Corp. The reflector uses a gold-plated mesh reflective surface that allows a very large antenna reflector to stow on the Loral 1300 satellite platform. The reflector size enables increased performance required for mobile interactive media services.
“The solar panels deployed as planned and are producing proper current,” Bob Day, ICO senior vice president of space systems, said in a statement. “The orbit raising was nominal and G1 is now on station at 92.85 degrees West longitude in geosynchronous orbit.”
ICO expects the satellite to be operations by May 15.
