The satellite industry remains in the midst of a strong resurgence, as revenues continue to climb year over year.
The demand for satellite services continues to fuel growth as satellite operators need new, more capable satellites as well as replacement spacecraft. Ground equipment and end-user equipment manufacturers also are benefiting from this growth in demand.

The traditional lines between the satellite and communications industries are rapidly overlapping and becoming blurred, as terrestrial communications companies look for ways to work with the satellite sector in order to provide customers in the broadcast, corporate and civil and military government markets with seamless communications solutions to link ever expanding global operations.

“If I was going to say what the biggest thing that became clear this year was, it would be the degree to which the satellite industry is becoming just another means of communication,” says Max Engel, a communications analyst with Frost & Sullivan. “One reason is that, with the consolidations, companies that own equity in satellites also own equity in communications. There’s nothing weird or exotic going on here, and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand it. The other reason is that companies in the satellite industry, to maintain their huge network system, have to provide more services.”

Annually, in our sponsored 13th issue of Via Satellite, we highlight some of the most advanced products and services being developed for the global satellite marketplace, demonstrating the advanced technology to both potential business partners and a diverse customer base.
The companies highlighted in the following pages continue to provide cutting-edge technologies and remain focused on providing the tools that the satellite industry will need to compete and prosper in the 21st century communications market.

Given the increases throughout the various sectors of the satellite industry, business is indeed picking up for many customers.
Today, satellite equipment manufacturers and services providers are working with new momentum. The 2008 Strategic Planning And Resource Guide is a tool for satellite services buyers, investors and professionals to use throughout the year while making decisions that affect the future course of their business.
