WorldSpace Loses Subscribers In 2007 First Quarter
WorldSpace Satellite Radio lost nearly 7,500 subscribers in the 2007 first quarter, bringing its total subscriber base to 191,600, the company announced May 9.
The decline reflected low net additions in India, where the satellite radio operator added 8,300 net subscribers during the quarter, which closed March 31, bringing its total to 170,400 subscribers. The gains were not enough to offset the loss of about 13,000 subscribers when a service contract in Kenya expired.
WorldSpace lost $35.5 million in the 2007 first quarter, up from a loss of $29.2 million in the same period a year ago. Revenues slipped from $3.5 million in the 2006 first quarter to $3 million in the most recent three months.
