Russian direct-to-home operator NTV-Plus will launch high-definition (HD) services using OpenTV’s digital television solutions, OpenTV announced May 8.

NTV-Plus, owned by Gazprom-Media, delivers more than 90 channels to 560,000 subscribers. The operator expects to launch its HD services in the second quarter using Thomson set-top boxes. The OpenTV solution also will support NTV-Plus’ planned expansion into HD personal video recorders, the company said.
