Hughes Introduces High-Speed BGAN Mobile Satellite Terminal
Hughes Network Systems LLC latest generation 9250 mobile satellite terminal has been approved to operate over Inmarsat’s Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), Hughes announced.
The unit is designed to deliver transmit and receive rates of more than 460 kilobits per second on the move and can provide data and video file transfers, Internet browsing, virtual private networks, Voice Over Intenet Protocol, and videoconferencing services. It features a fully autonomous tracking antenna and can be installed on a vehicle with a magnetic roof mount.
The terminal also can be upgraded with software that will allow it to operate with Inmarsat’s BGAN-X network, which is expected to be commercially launched later this year. KVH New Antennas Bring HDTV To Marine Vessels
KVH Industries Inc. rolled out its TracVision M series of marine satellite TV systems, the company announced. The M5 and M7 antennas use KVH’s new RingFire technology to bring “home theater-quality” coverage and reception of satellite TV programming, including high-definition TV, onboard. Newtec Releases New Satellite Modulator
Newtec has released a modulator that targets the burgeoning Chinese satellite market. The company is launching a professional modulator compatible with the advanced broadcasting system-satellite standard, China’s new specification for direct-to-home broadcasting via satellite. The modulator, first used by the China Content Broadcasting Network, was developed by Newtec in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Broadcasting Science and Availink, which will provide receiver chips for the set-top-boxes. RT Logic Rolls Out Rugged Modem

WebTech Joins Iridium To Offer Dual-Mode Cellular and Satellite Tracking System
WebTech Wireless Inc. and Iridium Satellite unveiled a dual-mode cellular and satellite asset tracking-and-management system for the transportation industry. WebTech’s WT1900 system incorporates Iridium’s 9601 short-burst data modem to provide coverage for long-haul customers. The system, developed under a value-added reseller agreement with Iridium, uses cellular frequencies when in range of terrestrial wireless networks and Iridium satellite links in other areas.
