The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the interested parties to solve their disagreements and move the Galileo satellite navigation program forward, the Parliament announced April 26.

"Parliament expresses deep concern about the slowing down of negotiations for the franchise contract, and voices fears about the increasing overall costs of this [European Union] program. Any further delays to the project should be kept to a minimum … and Galileo should be fully operational by 2011,” the organization said in a statement.

Parliament called for Jacques Barrot, vice president of the European Commission responsible for Galileo, to submit by June a roadmap for concluding a contract “as soon as possible,” and solutions for securing the long-term financial obligations. Parliament also called for the European Commission to submit two progress reports — the first by mid July and a second “well before” the negotiations reach the point that a revised proposal for financing Galileo is available.
