The College of European Commissioners adopted a document on a European Space Policy, the European Space Agency (ESA) announced April 26. ESA and the European Commission crafted the policy, which establishes a political framework for the development and exploitation of space technologies and systems.

“For over 30 years, the European Space Agency has been successfully developing space systems and infrastructures,” ESA Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain said in a statement. “We are eager to consolidate this success story in responding to the new challenges of the European Space Policy and in working with the European Commission to develop the application of space systems in support of Europe’s policies.”

The policy will be presented at the May 9 delegate-level meeting of ESA’s ruling council, and then for endorsement by European ministers at the 4th Space Council, slated for May 22 in Brussels.
