Faria WatchDog Inc. has chosen Quake Global Inc.’s Q9612 modem to provide two-way satellite communications for its vessel monitoring system (VMS), Quake Global announced March 26.

Faria WatchDog was recently type-approved by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service for installation on commercial fishing vessels in U.S. waters.

Faria WatchDog’s 750 VMS is a dual-mode transceiver product that will use the satellite modem for reporting position and data when out of range of shore towers. When vessels are within the range of shore towers, WatchDog utilizes the Cingular GSM network. The unit provides text messaging, mandated VMS position reporting and activity code declarations, catch and notification forms, and e-mail.
