Hughes Network Systems LLC latest generation Hughes 9250 mobile satellite terminal has been approved to operate over Inmarsat’s Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), Hughes announced March 15.

The unit is designed to deliver high-speed transmit and receive rates of more than 460 kilobits per second while on the move and can provide data and video file transfers, Internet browsing, virtual private networks, voice over Intenet protocol and videoconferencing services. It features a fully autonomous tracking antenna and can be installed on a vehicle with a magnetic roof mount.

The terminal also can be upgraded with software that will allow it to operate with Inmarsat’s BGAN-X network, which is expected to be commercially launched later in 2007.
