Globalstar Inc., a provider of mobile satellite voice and data services, has completed hardware installation for its satellite packet data network, the company announced March 12.

The work affects Globalstar data customers using the network for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) applications and other remote telemetry-monitoring tasks, ranging from status reports of remote gas and oil wells to general Internet and e-mail access.

With the exception of China, more than 250,000 Globalstar customers can roam among more than 120 countries where the provider’s service is available to access a direct Internet connection; the Chinese Globalstar service provider can register any customers wishing to access the service there.
