In its newly released update of the “World Market Survey of Satellites to be Built & Launched by 2016 (11th edition),” Euroconsult expects governments around the world to launch a total of 616 satellites over the next decade, an increase of approximately 32 percent from the previous decade.

Euroconsult expects governments to remain the larger market in comparison to commercial customers, with government contracts to account for two-thirds of the 960 satellites worldwide expected to be launched between 2007 and 2016.

Of those, more than two-thirds are anticipated for use by civilian agencies to execute space science and technology demonstration missions and also for operational services in meteorology, Earth observation, and navigation, according to the study.
