The launch of Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX)’s Falcon 1 rocket has been delayed until no earlier than March 9, CEO Elon Musk said on the company’s Web site.

The Kwajalein Army Range informed SpaceX that several range personnel responsible for launch safety processes will not be available for a planned February demonstration launch, Musk said. The company’s first launch attempt in March 2006 failed.

If this demonstration is successful, Falcon 1 is scheduled to launch a satellite for the U.S. Navy Research Laboratory in late summer and then a satellite for the Malaysian Space Agency later in 2007. SpaceX also is building another Falcon 1 for a possible fourth launch in 2007, which is dependent on the close of “some promising customer discussions,” Musk said.
