TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TCS) has received a U.S. government patent for technology that improves the ability of GPS to provide position information to users surrounded by geographic constraints such as buildings, the company announced.

The "Prioritized List of Potential Culled Satellite Ephemeris Information for Quick, Accurate Assisted Locating Satellite Location Determination" patent covers a method that enables a wireless subscriber’s location to be determined more quickly and reliably than traditional assisted GPS methods, the company said.

TCS now owns six assisted GPS patents.
