AT&T To Provide Satellite ServicesTo Nlets
Nlets, a Phoenix-based supplier of secure public-safety network systems, has awarded a one-year contract to AT&T for satellite services.
AT&T will provide a frame relay system, satellite equipment and connections for an application that will be used by the U.S. Armed Forces as well as other law enforcement entities to deliver information regarding homeland security.
Batelco To Offer IP Satellite Services
Batelco, an integrated communications provider in Bahrain offering telecommunications in the Middle East, is expanding its Ras Abu Jarjoor-based teleport by commissioning an international gateway using iDirect VSAT hub technologies. The move will enable Batelco’s customers within the Middle Eastern market to benefit from satellite services such as two-way broadband IP VSAT, videoconferencing, voice over IP, and virtual private networking.
Batelco also has partnered with Speedcast, a leading Asian satellite services provider, to enhance its service offering and global satellite coverage over the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.
EMS Satcom To Create Satellite Service Provider
EMS Satcom signed a memorandum of understanding with Vitrociset Belgium and Creaction International to develop a new satellite communications service to offer airtime services and equipment in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
EMS Satcom will supply equipment and airtime services. Vitrociset Belgium operates the European Space Agency (ESA) satellite ground station in Redu, Belgium, that will track and receive signals from the Artemis L-band communications satellite. Creaction is the Belgian official correspondent for ESA Space Technology Transfer and will develop applications and services in partnership with European companies.
The initial project will demonstrate and validate a satellite-based service offering on-demand bus services to rural areas in Belgium.
ESA Provides Satellite Photos To Google Earth
The European Space Agency (ESA) has created a special layer of content that will appear in Google Earth, enabling people to see more than 130 new satellite images including natural phenomena and manmade landmarks such as the Palm Islands in Dubai.
The images are acquired by ESA’s Envisat, ERS and Proba satellites. Envisat, launched in 2002, acquires data using three imaging sensors: advanced synthetic aperture radar, medium resolution imaging spectrometer and advanced along-track scanning radiometer.
Stratos Signs Strategic Alliance with Seamobile
Stratos Global Corp. has signed a strategic alliance agreement with Seamobile Enterprises to deliver GSM and CDMA wireless voice and data to the U.S. government and military markets, Stratos announced.
Under the agreement, the two companies will develop system to enable wireless users at sea or in remote locations to use personal cell phones.
