Technology advancements have allowed Hughes Network Systems LLC (HNS) to boost the speed and performance of its Direcway satellite broadband service for consumers and small businesses, the company announced.

The company’s latest DW7000 modem can provide satellite Internet speeds up to twice as fast as Direcway’s existing offerings, HNS said. The technology previously was available only to larger companies, the company said.

Residential plans now offer speeds up to 1 megabit per second and start at $59 per month. Small business plans start at $99 per month and offer maximum speeds of up to 2 megabits per second.
