Arnav To Use Globalstar System To Provide Service To Aviation Market
Globalstar [GSTRF] and Arnav Systems Inc. of Puyallup, Wash., said Arnav will use the Globalstar system to provide satellite-based voice and data communications to the general aviation market.
General aviation includes corporate and private aircraft and small air services. Arnav plans to offer the pilots and owners of these aircraft data services that will include graphical weather services, flight following, engine monitoring and reporting, e-mail and Internet connects.
“Combining other avionics building blocks like graphical displays, GPS navigation and engine monitoring with data link services allows an unprecedented capability of information transfer between the aircraft and the ground. Globalstar adds an additional connection to our other wireless VHF, UHF and satellite networks that form the Arnav Aeronautical Network,” said Frank Williams, president of Arnav Systems.
Arnav announced two Globalstar products. A combined voice telephony and packet data system includes a Qualcomm Globalstar phone, phone docking station, aircraft satellite antenna and cockpit integration module that connects the phone to the aircraft audio panel, power supply and avionics display. Its manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $9,995.
A data-only product will provide weather services, e-mail, aircraft operational data reporting, automatic aircraft position reporting, engine monitoring and reporting and dispatch management. Its price is $6,995.
