HISPASAT GETS GO AHEAD FOR FOURTH 1D
The board of directors of Spanish satellite company Hispasat has given the green light for building its fourth unit 1D, will a launch scheduled for the autumn of 2002.
Hispasat has awarded the French group Alcatel Espace the licence to build the new satellite and will be launched by Lockheed Martin.
Both companies conducted the manufacturing and launching of the previous satellite, 1C, into orbit last February. The deadline for the launch of 1D is 23 months. With a life span of 15 years, the 1D will have 28 transponders and will be located at 30 degrees West. Hispasat 1D will cover Europe, North of Africa and the American continent. According to the company, the new satellite has been designed to meet the demands for capacity of multimedia and interactive services and the Internet.
