In a move that will lead to TM3 probably being remembered in German television history as the most revamped TV channel, the Munich-based broadcaster will undergo another major content change this autumn. TM3 which originally launched in 1995 as women’s channel and last year became a general entertainment channel famous for its Champions League coverage, will be turned into a Internet-style TV channel on November 11. The on-screen look of TM3 will be similar to a webpage. The schedule will mainly consist of entertainment magazines and TV shows such as a dating show of 15 to 60 minutes duration each.

All programmes will be accompanied by a large Internet presence in which the viewer can obtain further information, take part or rate the content. The new format makes TM3 a competitor to computer and multimedia channel Giga TV which airs on a daily daytime window on NBC Europe.

According to industry sources, a large part of the shows will be produced by a TV production company in Pullach near Munich which recently registered the trademark Sun TV, thus, it is expected that TM3’s new name will be Sun TV. A name change had been anticipated as “TM” in the name stands for Tele Munchen, the production company that recently left the channel as a shareholder and sold its stake to Rupert Murdoch, currently 100 per cent shareholder.
