EMS Technologies Inc. [ELMG] which recently won a contract for more than 15,000 broadband, Ka-band, two-way VSAT terminals for service with SES/Astra’s 1H satellite, has subcontracted with Norsat International Inc. [NSATF], to supply the outdoor portion of the VSATs.

Norsat said it has received an initial order for 10,000 hybrid Ka- /Ku-band outdoor units for delivery beginning in the fourth quarter of this year and ramping up to increased volumes next year. The outdoor unit is comprised of the antenna and transmitter/receiver.

The outdoor units will be integrated with EMS’s own indoor portion–the modem and satellite access and control and multiplexer/demultiplexer–of the VSATs. EMS then will ship them to Kokua Communications Inc. of London, which will provide end-to-end Ka-band service through European ISPs.
