NASA Picks Boeing, Lockheed For ID/IQ Contracts; Boeing Gets Three Missions
NASA has awarded Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) launch contracts to The Boeing Co. [BA] and Lockheed Martin Corp. [LMT]. The agency awarded three launches under the contracts to Boeing.
NASA said that during the 10-year life of the IDIQ contracts, it plans to order a total of 70 civil launches with an aggregate value of $5 billion. It will be up to the two companies launch organizations–Boeing Delta Launch Services Inc. and Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services Inc.–to compete for individual launches or to select the launch missions it wants to pursue.
Each of the companies is guaranteed at least one launch during the life of the contracts, and at the outset Boeing was selected for three firm missions, plus five options.
The three firm mission will be worth more than $168 million, NASA said, and the five options would have a total value of more than $248 million, bringing the total value to Boeing Delta Launch Systems to about $417 million.
