Cidera Inc. of Laurel, Md., which specializes in distributing Internet content by satellite, has been selected by Road Runner, a cable TV Internet service, to supply its service to Road Runner’s regional data centers.

Cidera said moving distribution directly to the regional centers will “free up bandwidth on the Road Runner system and enable the company to provide high–speed cable TV broadband service to more customers at reduced cost.”

“We believe that Cidera’s service portfolio meets the needs of broadband customers, from streaming media to Usenet news,” said Bob Marggraf, president and chief operating officer of Cidera. “We’re happy that Road Runner continues to see value in removing bandwidth-intensive data such as Usenet news from its network and pushing it to the edge with Cidera’s satellite broadcast capability.”
