Orbcomm de Mexico, the Orbital Communications Corp. [ORB] licensee for Mexico and most of Central America, has received its license from the Mexican Secretaria de Communicaciones y Transportes and launched its service in that country.

The company said it also has exclusive rights to market Orbcomm services in Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua, and is seeking government licenses in each of those countries.

“With a population approaching 100 million and a thriving economy, Mexico is the ideal market for Orbcomm’s global asset management solutions. We look forward to rapid market progress in the region,” said Scott Webster, chairman and CEO of Orbcomm.

Orbcomm de Mexico is owned by Proeza Group, whose Telecommunications Division provides telecom software and integration services. Other divisions of Proeza produce auto and truck chassis and bodies and agricultural products.
