BSkyB has signed a deal with Exel, creating a new distribution centre, as the broadcaster continues to attempt to keep pace with the demand for digital upgrades. The new national distribution centre in Sheffield follows a separate announcement of a pounds50 million investment in the upgrade of customer services facilities. Sub-scribers will be able to access account, billing and other information and services through the set-top box, Internet or mobile phone. Similar Web-based services have already been put in place by BT and the credit card company Barclay-card. Sky has subcontracted the distribution arm of its Sky In-Home Services division to Excel, which will consolidate the current 15 region distribution centres on a single site. Staff affected by the move are to be offered alternative employment within Sky In-Home Services or Excel.
